Something I’m Reading
In preparation for a podcast recording this week, I’m reading “Saving Aziz: How the Mission to Help One Became a Calling to Rescue Thousands from the Taliban” by Chad Robichaux.
Something I Photographed
My wife makes a lot of food that people would kill for. But I’m not sure any is as good as these homemade snickerdoodle cookies. And now she has my kids, both of them, making them.

Something I Can Answer
I’ll be answering two questions asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!
Question: "What advice do you have when it comes to growing your network?”
The best advice I have for growing one's network is to stop thinking about it as growing one's network. And just ask the question, how do I make more friends? And then specifically, how do I make more of the right friends? Like it's one thing to go down to the bar and go make friends with people. It's another thing to go to a real estate conference and make friends with people. You want to get the right kind of people. So you ask yourself, how do I get in rooms where there are the right kind of people and that's usually paying for a conference, or paying for a mastermind. You can start your own network, start your own real estate meetup, attend a local meetup, whatever. And then it just comes with that. Read the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” which is phenomenal. It's like 100 years old, but it still applies today on how to build relationships with people.
Question: "If someone is looking to scale and grow by forming a partnership, what advice or tips do you have when looking for the perfect person to partner up with?”
The key to a perfect partnership is don't form a partnership unless you work together on a limited basis. First, it's a huge mistake to just jump into bed with someone you have to date. You have to flirt, then date before you get married. So find ways to work together first before you partner. The second thing is you want to find partners that obviously you get along with, you enjoy and you have similar values. Valid core values are integral to this, but also that you have different skill sets. And this is where personality tests can come in really handy for things like the DISC profile. An example would be I'm a high I on the DISC profile, which means that I like like interpersonal stuff, and I like hanging out and I like talking to people like high level stuff. And I'm not very detail oriented, which is much more of the C characteristics. A high C is gonna be somebody who's much more detail oriented, so I would be a pretty low C. So I when I look for a partner, I'm gonna find somebody who has a higher C, and they don't have to be as personal as I do. So that's probably the biggest thing with partnerships and then go slow. And then overdo it on preventative measures of legal and conversations like, go get a lawyer involved, talk about what are all the things that could go wrong and then plan that out.
Something I Recommend
I was always envious of the people who are “ON” 100% of the time. The people who don’t deal with low motivation, doubt, fear of failure, or those endless days of thinking your whole entrepreneurial journey is about to blow up in your face. These people were running circles around me in business and real estate and when I finally figured out what they had that I didn’t – It all made sense.
These people were using a Mindset Coach to keep their eye on the prize and expose them to a higher level of thinking every single day. So when I went to find one of these coaches specifically for real estate investors, all roads lead to Jason Drees. Jason has been coaching me for nearly a decade at this point and has supported my growth from a small time investor to someone with nearly $1B worth of assets under management.
If you’re looking for an edge to accelerate your growth, talk to Jason. You can get a FREE coaching session through this link.
For my health-conscious friends (or those trying to be healthier), I’ve been using MyBodyTutor for years for accountability on my fitness and diet. These guys assign you a coach to hold you accountable, track your food, suggest exercises etc. You can check them out here.
