Something I’m Reading
I just finished reading “One Second After” by William R. Forstchen. I really enjoyed it and will be picking up the next one in the series. It’s a good fiction read if you are into dystopian or “end of the world” type of books.
Something I Teach: Goal Setting that Works. A Three-Week BTB Series on Goal Setting
Want to increase your chances of success? Research suggests that setting and writing down your goals, committing to them publicly, and having accountability can make a big difference. A study led by Gail Matthews, a professor at Dominican University's Department of Psychology, found that those who wrote down their goals had a 42% success rate, while those who also committed publicly to their goals had a 60% success rate. But the highest success rate was found in those who added weekly accountability with a friend, with a completion rate of 76%. This shows that accountability plays a crucial role in achieving your goals.
So my challenge to you is this: get some accountability this year. Who can you bring into your life that is going to hold your feet to the fire and ensure you actually do what you say you are going to do? Maybe that means hiring a performance coach. It’s thousands a month, but likely worth it if you can afford it. Or maybe it means forming an accountability pod, which is a major component of the new Tribe I just launched, The BetterLife Tribe. Check it out. But regardless of how you get it…add in some accountability!
Something I Photographed
Me on yesterday’s goal-setting call. Who was there!?
Something I’m Excited About
Yesterday I did goal-setting with 1500+ people (probably a lot more, since the majority of the people there had spouses or significant others with them). And at the end, I finally revealed what I’ve been working on for some time now: the new BetterLife Tribe. It’s gonna be awesome. Weekly accountability pods. Weekly mentor calls with experts to share their wisdom and knowledge with the group. In-person retreats, including the first that will be about getting started with real estate investing, and a marriage retreat after that! Plus, an online community for asking questions and building relationships, an annual conference, and a lot more. It’s not $30,000. It’s $300 a month. But we’re shutting down access to the tribe soon, so if you are interested, apply to join now!
Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!
Question: “What is one lesson you learned in 2022?”
I learned that the absence of work is not joy. In fact, when I stopped working so much, I didn’t get any happier, I got a little miserable. So I’ve re-thought a lot about how I structure my time and fill the “vacuum” that is often present. I want to work on meaningful things, with amazing people, and then be 100% present with my kids or doing physical fun activities the rest of the time. I understand now why “retired people” are often so miserable!
