Something I’m Reading

I started a new fiction book titled “One Second After” by William Forstchen. It’s an interesting book around the idea of war in America and life after an EMP wiped everything out.

Something I Teach: Goal Setting that Works. A Three-Week BTB Series on Goal Setting

92% of New Year’s resolutions fail. In this 3-week series, I wanna lay out some principles for effective goal setting! This is also a good preparation for the upcoming 2023 goal-setting class I’m hosting online on January 11th! Are you coming?

Today’s lesson: Make fewer goals.

There is an indirect correlation between the number of goals you set and your chance of accomplishing any of them. Set 3 goals and you’ll probably hit 2. Set 10 and you’ll probably hit none.

So really take a look at your life and decide: what 2-3 goals are going to be the MOST important to accomplish? You can still add other things to a list and call it, “ambitions” but they don’t deserve the same level of attention as your 2-3 goals do.

If you wanna learn the exercise I do to narrow pick those 2-3 goals, register for the digital goal-setting class ;)

Next week we’ll be talking about how to set “Identity Based Goals.” Stay tuned!

Something I’m Excited About

I said this last week but I’ll say it again - I’m pumped for 2023! It’s gonna be a great year. Who’s with me?!

Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!

Question: “Do you have any time management ‘hacks’ for someone stuck overworking at a W2?”

I have three tips for you:

  1. Do a time audit of your non-work hours. Every 15 minutes, for a whole week. What are you doing? This will show you where you have availability in your day and how you truly use your time.

  2. Carve out just 30 minutes a day to work on whatever it is you are working toward (outside of your W2). And do it every day - don’t miss one day. It’s just 30 minutes, you can do it. Daily consistency is what will give you the results you want.

  3. Have a specific spot in your house or office where you work on this task. Only use that spot for this task, and only work on this task in that spot. Your mind will associate that spot with your work, and you’ll immediately be able to work hard and focused while there.

Use this time and discipline to build something that can free you from your W2. Even just 30 minutes a day can take you further than you think. I hope this helps!

Your Friend,
