Something I’m Reading
I’m still reading the book Love and War by John and Stacey Eldridge which I was reading last week. I haven’t had much time to read since transitioning to being back in Hawaii. But Im looking forward to getting up early and reading again like I love to do!
Something I Teach
If you want to make more money but you don’t want to work more, the obvious answer is you need to separate the hours you work from the income you receive. This is Rich Dad, Poor Dad 101. However, to do that, I’m a big believer that you often times just have to go bigger. You must go bigger to get smaller. What I mean by this is you have to get bigger in terms of both your mindset and knowledge and by growing your team.
An example of this would be you’re trying to flip houses. You’ve been doing all the work yourself because it’s too expensive to hire somebody. So you flip 1 house a year and working 40 hours a week flipping the house to make $50k a year from the flip. That’s great! However, if you want to work less to earn more, imagine hiring a couple contractors, a sales person, and an acquisitions person and they run the business. They’re able to work and operate the systems of the business and now you’re flipping 10 houses a year, making $500,000 a year. After paying out maybe $300,000 in salaries, you’re still making $200,000 a year while working less. So how can you apply this to your business to scale while working less?
Something I Photographed
So happy to be back on Maui - at least for a few days! I’ll be in Houston next week for some due diligence on ODC’s latest acquisition. I’ll be hosting a meet-up while in Houston. Keep an eye on my IG and in the Behind the Beard for more meet-up details next week.
Something I’m Excited About
Pumped for ODC to be hiring a marketing genius (aka a Marketing Manager) to share ODC with the masses! I’m a marketing guy at heart so I’m going to be working directly this position to grow ODC with some fun projects (maybe you’ll see us on TV…idk 😉). If that sounds like you, apply here. Applications are closing tonight at midnight so hurry and apply!
Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!
Question: “How do you hold yourself accountable to taking your MINS (Most Important Next Step)?”
The truth is I am generally not very good at self-discipline. That’s why I like having a journal and setting MINS. I try to “gamify” it and challenge myself like “Can I actually hold to this for 90 days and how far will I be at the end of it?”.
One helpful idea is to have an accountability group who is going through the journal themselves that you meet with once a week. Admittedly, I don’t have that right now due to all my travel recently. But historically this has always been the biggest help to me. I’d encourage you to meet periodically with a group of people who are also working towards their goals and can ensure you’re using your journal, tracking your progress, and taking that most important next step.
