Something I’m Reading
I just finished “The Way of the Superior Man” by David Deida. Interesting book that I would definitely recommend for any man, especially married dudes. Women might also enjoy this, for a peek inside the male mind when it comes to sexuality and intimacy. The book is definitely a bit controversial, with lots of generalizations that some might disagree with - but overall, I thought it was super helpful and insightful.
Something I Photographed
This is why I’m working out and eating healthy to avoid… (The App that made this, fyi: FaceApp )
Something I’m Excited About
Every year, my local church puts on “Sports Camp” for hundreds of kids on Maui, where kids spend the whole week working on various sports. They get professional athletes to come and train the kids, and have hundreds of volunteers to make it all happen. That’s happening this week, so I’m excited for my kids, who absolutely love it. And when my kids are excited, I’m excited.
It’s also a “Podcast Party” week, where I have 6 podcast recordings over a 3-day period - all with people I love to hang out with. So it’s going to be a fun week of hanging with some real awesome real estate investors!
Some Thoughts to (Hopefully) Make Your Life Better
10 Things Wealthy People Do Differently
1. They have a clear vision and set specific, measurable goals for themselves. They don't simply set "resolutions" - they turn those resolutions into plans and action.
2. They surround themselves with successful and supportive people - even if they have to pay for it. I know some wealth people who pay $250,000+ to be a part of tribes with other wealthy people. Why? Because they know it matters (and that only other extremely successful people would spend that kind of money!)
3. They are willing to take asymmetric risks. This means, they calculate risks and bet heavily on scenarios that have disproportionate upside compared to the downside. Example: hiring an employee *could* lead to a loss of $100,000 if that person sucks. But if they're good, it could lead to millions in additional revenue. That's an asymmetric risk.
4. They are diligent and disciplined in their habits and routines. This doesn't mean they are always incredibly "naturally self-disciplined," but they work continually on making sure the habits and routines in their life are leading them where they want to go. They adjust habits as needed, they get accountability on those habits, they track them, and they monitor their results.
5. They are continually learning and seeking to improve themselves. They read books, they attend conferences and seminars, they listen to podcasts. They understand that real education BEGINS after graduation; it didn't end there.
6. They are strategic in their financial planning and investments. In other words, they look out 10, 20, 30 years and make choices with their finances today that will better their life then. They don't follow "trendy investment advice" but make bets based on knowledge and professional advice.
7. They are proactive in their career and business endeavors. They don't simply "accept" what others give them, they actively decide where they are headed with their business. They seek to be "the best" - and often competitive - in everything they do.
8. They prioritize their health and well-being. Building wealth requires energy - both mental and physical - so wealth people take time and resources to eat right, exercise regularly, and sleep enough.
9. They have strong communication and leadership skills. While not 100% true for every wealthy person, strong leadership and communication skills generally lead toward more income, more opportunities, and more success. But here's the kicker: wealthy people weren't necessarily born with these skills. They've worked tirelessly to improve these traits - and it pays off.
10. They quit almost everything they do. That's right: they don't stay in the role they are at. They are continually reinventing themselves, hiring others to do their tasks, and elevating to new roles continually.
To your better life,
