Something I’m Reading

I just started "A Swim in a Pond in the Rain” by George Saunders”. It’s a book about great writing, as examined through the lens of a few famous Russian authors. Only a chapter or two in, but as a lover of both writing and reading, I am gonna love this book.

Something I Photographed

Spent a couple days visiting Hana, on the other side of Maui. This beach, Waianapanapa (aka “Black Sand Beach”)  is one of the most amazing places on the island!

Something I’m Excited About

Enrollment for the BetterLife Tribe just closed and we added 300 new members. So 300 new people are going to be setting big real estate (and other) goals, building a roadmap to get them, and growing into better versions of themselves. Not to mention we’re fighting against human trafficking at the same time. It doesn’t get better than that!

Something I Can Answer

I’ll be answering two questions asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!

Question: "What role is self improvement played in your life?

When I started investing in real estate, I only read real estate books. It wasn't until a decade later I started reading more personal development and business books. And then my business really took off because at the end of the day, real estate is a business and so when you when you work on yourself, and you work on business systems, the business of real estate grows. If I want to just be good at fixing toilets and painting units and screening for tenants, I can just read real estate books. So it played a huge role in helping me scale.

Question: "What's your criteria for identifying undervalued properties that have potential for significant appreciation over time?

The key to natural appreciation is the market. In other words, I want to invest in areas where people are moving, not in areas that look like there is going to be growth and in the path of progress. So the most important thing for long term appreciation is the location itself. I also look for what do people need? Long term? Like what style house will people want in the future. That matters to me. For example, older people might like some more single level houses. So I'm kind of thinking like in the area, what's gonna appreciate and then also, what type of property might do the best. So it's not necessary that I'm concerned about undervalued properties, I'm really just concerned about where can I buy properties that have significant value in the future. They dont necessary have to be undervalued today.

Something I Recommend

I was always envious of the people who are “ON” 100% of the time.  The people who don’t deal with low motivation, doubt, fear of failure, or those endless days of thinking your whole entrepreneurial journey is about to blow up in your face.  These people were running circles around me in business and real estate and when I finally figured out what they had that I didn’t – It all made sense.

These people were using a Mindset Coach to keep their eye on the prize and expose them to a higher level of thinking every single day. So when I went to find one of these coaches specifically for real estate investors, all roads lead to Jason Drees. Jason has been coaching me for nearly a decade at this point and has supported my growth from a small time investor to someone with nearly $1B worth of assets under management.

If you’re looking for an edge to accelerate your growth, talk to Jason. You can get a FREE coaching session through this link

For my health-conscious friends (or those trying to be healthier), I’ve been using MyBodyTutor for years for accountability on my fitness and diet. These guys assign you a coach to hold you accountable, track your food, suggest exercises etc. You can check them out here.
