Something I’m Reading
Just finally wrapped up “The Founder and the Force Multiplier” this morning. It was a great look at how to work with an executive assistant to maximize your life!
Something I Teach
Typically I share a lesson here but I’m switching this up going forward! Instead, Ill be answering more of YOUR questions that you text in. Read the “Something I Can Answer” section for more thoughts and lessons from me 😉
Something I Photographed
I got to lead worship at my church this past weekend. I always like doing that. Thanks Alex Felice for the photo that made this moment look way more epic than it probably was! 😊
Something I’m Excited About

Something I Can Answer
Starting this week, I’ll be answering two questions asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!
Question: “Even after analyzing deals, taking the plunge is hard. Any advice?”
Definitely. Fear is usually caused by flying over your future at a 10,000-foot level, and looking at it way too much. It’s overwhelming and scary to look at the next 6 months of work. It’s not scary, however, to find your phone. It’s not scary to pick it up. It’s not at all that scary to send a text to an agent. But if you are stepping back and looking at, “and then I gotta make an offer and I don’t know what to offer and then I gotta negotiate and then find money and then find an inspector and then … and then… and then…” That gets overwhelming and scary. So my advice is simply: Don’t live at a 10,000-foot level. Zoom in. Focus on the next thing, the Most Important Next Step (MINS.) Take small actions, over and over. When fear sets in, zoom in.
Also, it’s less scary to do it alongside someone else. So maybe bring in a partner, or if you’re in The BetterLife Tribe and you have a pod of your peers, then bring it up there, and walk alongside others who are on the same journey. #FriendsReduceFear 😊
Question: “How do I maintain happiness despite being so busy?”
Love this question.
So first, I’m not actually “that busy.” I’m a big believer in “who not how” mentality, so I’m always looking to surround myself with great people. I also make sure I’m always asking myself, “Am I being effective, and not just busy?” Or another way of looking at that is this: “Is the action I’m doing right now THE most impactful thing I can do?” SO, in other words, establish the rules of how you play the game of life upfront. Don’t be busy and you won’t be busy.
Of course, sometimes life does get intense and a lot of things come down at once. Last week was like that for me. So how do I maintain happiness? By a.) Defining the actions that make me happy and b.) Making sure to schedule those FIRST in my calendar. For me, that’s running, date nights with my wife, playing with my kids, surfing, etc. I schedule those first, so the “busy week” has to fit in around it.
And third: I rest. Like, I take the idea of a "Sabbath" very seriously. On Friday night, I shut off my phone and for 24-hours, I just rest. No work, no meetings, no grocery shopping. We just do activities, as a family, that are “life-giving.” We get donuts. We go to the park. I read on my front porch. I eat a big meal with friends. This “reset” in my week helps to reset my mind, and make life feel FAR less busy. (For more on this, read “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer. It’s phenomenal.)
