Something I’m Reading

I’m reading a book called Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath. It’s a book on what makes ideas stick around for a long time. For example, what are the principles that make something like the BRRRR strategy take-off when a number of other concepts that I’ve talked about over the years have not? I’m thoroughly enjoying this book!

Something I Teach

5 Steps for Massive Success:

1.) Define your goal specifically

2.) Determine what habits or traits or systems would virtually guarantee success

3.) Do those things

4.) Track those habits and traits

5.) Get some accountability to ensure you actually do it.

Something I Photographed

My wife and I put up some cool looking wallpaper in the living room. Wallpaper is apparently back? 😂

Something I’m Excited About

I’m hiring for two new positions right now! One is an Human Resource Generalist with Open Door Capital. It’s a remote, part-time position with some flexible work hours. The second position is Handyman & Groundskeeper for me personally out here in Maui! So I’m calling all you handyman and skilled workers out there to come hang with me in Maui :) If neither are for you, share them with a friend! You can learn more and apply at odcfund.com/jobs.

P.S. Typically, we get overrun with applications and close the application window after less than a week so apply ASAP!

Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!

Question: “What is your best tip for someone trying to grow a social media following and personal brand?”

This fits perfectly with the book I’m reading and mentioned above. The best tip I have for somebody is what I call “Intentional Authenticity.” It means be intentional about what you’re doing with social media but don’t be fake. Be intentional and authentic about who you really are and talk about what you are doing in life. Talk about your projects. Talk about real estate. Talk about your family.

However, don’t over dilute your message by talking about too many things at once - like your travel plans, diary entries, your bonsai tree, fears about water, pet goldfish etc. Keep your goal in mind. Are you trying to find capital partners or get customers through social media? If so, taking shirtless pics at the gym everyday may not be a good theme. It’s possible to be authentic with who you are while being intentional about the goal you are trying to accomplish.
