Something I’m Reading

Just started reading "The Monk and the Merchant" by Terry Felber. It’s a personal finance/wealth creation book that has been recommended to me many times. I’m a few chapters in and it’s good! It's a "fable" - which tends to be cheesy, but I really like this writing style and lessons.

Something I Teach

"Bring Back Boring." This tip is nothing new, but it's worth repeating. Success comes down to doing the boring stuff consistently. The days in the gym. The consistent, healthy meals. The offers made on real estate. The deals analyzed. The weekly date nights. The story time with your kids. That's where the magic is: in the boring. So what "boring" thing needs to become consistent in your life?

Something I Photographed

Dinner with some friends at Maui Brewing Co - a local favorite (and they have incredible Mai Thais).

Something I’m Excited About

I’m still coming off the high of an amazing weekend with the Cabana Club out here in Maui. The Cabana Club is a group within our Open Door Capital limited partners who have invested significantly more into our deals so we offer regular events around the world with them. Such a powerful group of people! (Learn more at www.ODCFund.com/cc)

Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!

Question: “How do you go about raising capital for the first time?” -Mary

Raising capital requires four things which I call the KITE principle:

  1. Knowledge. You have to have a lot of knowledge in the niche, area, or overall thing you’re gonna do.

  2. Integrity. How you do anything is how you do everything. Do you have integrity in how you operate every area of your life? And, more importantly, can you back that up?

  3. Tactics. You need to have a business plan and know exactly how you are going to get your investors their money back.

  4. Experience. This goes hand in hand with knowledge but takes it a step further. Do you have experience and can investors trust you to properly use their capital?

I talked with my buddy Jake Harris on his podcast, “Passive Wealth Principles”. We had a great conversation about dealing with imposter syndrome, key habits that can set you up for success, how to build a business (without doing it all yourself), systems I have in place to scale my business, and more!
