Something I’m Reading

I’m reading “Fairy Tale” from Stephen King. I’m about 1/3 of the way through and I have a hard time putting it down. King is such an amazing writer.

Something I Teach

My daughter is pretty terrible at tennis. I mean, she’s six and just started the sport, but even with that, she’s really not good.

She misses 99% of the balls carefully tossed to her, while all her friends and teammates hit around 50%.

But here’s the thing: she absolutely LOVES playing the game. Even after missing 10 swings in a row, her face lights up with the greatest little smile. Pure joy. Because she loves playing, not just winning.

Winning is great, but what if we approached our work with the same intention: that we’re going to love PLAYING, rather than only basing our joy on winning? What if we were equally excited about getting our offer rejected as we are about getting it accepted because we’re actually playing the game while most of the world is spectating? What if the joy comes from the work, not the outcome? How can we move one step closer to that today?

Something I Photographed

Drove up to an amazing viewpoint to cook dinner over the fire with some friends from college. The view didn’t materialize, but great conversation did!

Something I’m Excited About

Open Door Capital will be launching Fund 7 (“The Generational Wealth Fund”) reeeeal soon 👀 Get notified when it’s live by signing up here. This thing will likely fill up in 24 hrs (no, seriously).

Something I Can Answer
Every week, I answer one question asked by a BTB subscriber. Have a question you want me to answer? Reply to this text with your question!

Question: “Do you suggest paying off bad debt before investing in real estate?”

Yes and no. I’ll do a little lateral thinking here and say: I would use all your extra money to pay off the bad debt. Live cheap. House Hack. Drive a beater car. BUT…I would also STILL invest in real estate…just do it with a “no or low money down” strategy, like one of the options in my book “The Book on Investing with No (or Low) Money Down.”  This way, you get the best of both worlds, and you’ll gain some really valuable creative-finance skills in the process!

Your Friend,

P.S. Comment below and let me know your thoughts on this week’s BTB! Please be friendly :)
